So I
needed a break from the monotony of student life, so I decided to add an entry
on my blog. I mean one can only spend so much time working on school stuff!!
Granted I still have a long list of things I have to do, but hey I’m only
human. J
Besides if I have to do another physics equation I might just scream! Now I’m not
sure many of you know this, but my major in school is Biochemistry. Why?
Because I’m nuts? Actually the real reason is because I want to work for the
Center for Disease Control (CDC). I have a great affinity for learning about
viruses and bacteria. I hope to one day
be able to create some cure or vaccine for people everywhere. A girl can dream
right?
You are
all probably wondering why on Earth I am talking about my degree and future
career instead of talking about awesomely amazing books. Well let me tell you
why. The series of books I am going to be talking about is called Virals and it is written by Kathy Reichs and Brendan Reichs. Now I don’t know if any of you readers recognize the
name Kathy Reichs, but if you don’t let me help jog your brains. Kathy Reichs
is the author of the Temperance Brennan books. These books are the basis for
the TV show on Fox called Bones. I bet now the bells are ringing.
This
series is loosely connected to the Temperance Brennan books because they follow
her great niece Tori Brennan who is a teen girl living with her father in
pretty much the middle of nowhere. Tori is absolutely brilliant with a mind
almost on par with her great aunt…almost. Tori has a group of friends named
Ben, Hi and Sheldon, also all brilliant. They all reside on a small stretch of
land in Charleston, South Carolina. All their parents work on an island called
Loggerhead Island, where they do research about animals, such as monkeys and
marine life. I know a weird pairing but I didn’t write the book.
Also on
the island there is a pack, or rather a pair of wolves/dogs. A female wolf bred
with a dog and they had half breed pups. They’re story pretty much starts when
Tori on an excursion on Loggerhead they discover a set of Vietnam dog tags and
they also realize one of the puppies is missing. (Oh my!) Tori, with her
burning curiosity wants to know more about the dog tags and she wants to find
the puppy, so they sneak into the labs to use the equipment to read what is on
the tags.
They
almost get caught in the labs and try to run for cover and in doing so they end
up in a quarantined off lab where they find the wolf dog pup!! Somebody has
been experiment on him and exposed him to a experimental version of parvovirus,
which in turn means that they are exposed. Soon weird things are happening to
them that they can’t quite explain and they’re story unfolds even more!
Now I
gave you the back story all you have to do is go get the books and read them!!
They are great and full of adventure from solving murders, to pirates, to geocaching
and hurricanes!! This series has everything and you might actually learn some
stuff since Kathy Reichs is a scientist herself!
Seriously
go read them!!!
Keep turning those pages!
